Are your insecurities limiting you?
When I woke up in the hospital, I did not have my arm anymore and this was a shock for my family and I. Everyone who came to visit me said beautiful uplifting things, but one phone call with my aunt really changed my perspective. She said, you can be the person people look up to, or you can be the person people feel sorry for. Only I could make this choice an no one else.
In my mind I knew I wanted to do something great, I wanted to go back to creating YouTube videos and feel productive again. Unfortunately, I felt very discouraged because I gained weight, my teeth were broken, I had scars on my face and my arm was missing. I didn’t feel smart enough or qualified enough to talk about life or my personal experiences. I even asked my brother one day what should I make videos about and he said, about you, your life, your challenges, etc.. Even then it took me a couple years to build the confidence to actually post a video.
What I want to tell you is that I know what it means to get to the edge and turn around in fear. I recorded many times before but I could not force my self to post on YouTube because I was scared. It takes so much want, faith, and courage to jump, to take a leap of faith in believing that we are meant for something greater.
So here is something to reflect on..
~ Are you afraid of what others may say or think about you?
People will talk and judge, I mean not even Jesus was safe from people talking smack about him, him being the holiest person to walk on earth did not please everyone so why should you aim for that? It is clear that people are different and they like different things, that’s actually cool because that means there is a client for everyone! So don’t put too much pressure on you, at least you are making the most of your time, learning new skills and doing things that make you happy.
~ Are you clear on what your goals are?
If goals aren’t clear or specific, we go into a fog, where we are blindly taking steps towards something that we can’t see. If we have a clear goal and we fail on the execution, it become easier to tweak how we pursued that goal and try again. However if we can’t clearly see what we are going after, we will blame the goal, the circumstances and even ourselves for failing.
~ Have you made a realistic plan to make your dreams a reality?
Les Brown says, “its better to be prepared for an opportunity than to have an opportunity and not be prepared”, therefore planning is key. To create a blog post there is a lot of planning, from the tittle to the additional links, I check my search optimization strategy, the marketing that I will do, etc. Writing and publishing is just a fraction of my creative time. Plan, but don’t fail to act, I like to say for every 1/2 cup of planning you must add 1 cup of action, therefore be expected to do more than you plan.
~ What is the worse that can happen if you do fail?
This is for you to answer based on your life. For me, if blogging and the influencer life doesn’t work I will go back to work a 9-5 job, save money and try something else. I have given myself a deadline to make a living from creating content and by then I will evaluate my earnings and go to the next thing, if needed.
Having the correct mindset will take you much further than you ever thought possible, but we don’t get there if we don’t let go of our insecurities!
I made this video where I talk about two things I learned from failing I hope you enjoy!
Thank you!
